Think of a person you know who you see as a radiant beacon of justice, peace, and unwavering faith. Do you know someone who is not merely involved in activism, but embodies it? Their days are spent organizing, advocating, and standing boldly for the human rights of all people. They work tirelessly to make peace, to foster interreligious understanding, and to abolish poverty and racism. Their life is a living sermon, their actions a sacred liturgy.
“Activist” is a title that feels too small for the breadth of their compassion and the depth of their commitment. Their faith and activism are not separate pursuits—they are one and the same. These are the people who live the Gospel with every breath. Micah 6:8, is their guiding light: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Can we too be people of prophetic words and action? Can we listen to the call of the prophet to return to the Lord, to right injustices, to be repairers of the breach? There are so many injustices in the world. But, we can take steps to make a difference in our world. We can live a true Christian life by offering our service to those in need.
Blessed Mary Angela, foundress of the Felician Sisters, was one who put her faith into action. She worked with orphans and widows in Poland, offering them a safe haven, care, and food. Walking humbly with God led her to do justice and love kindness. Her hospitality is a model for us to put our faith into action. Hebrews 13:2 tells us: “Do not neglect hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.”
Blessed Angela: “Before each activity say: May this be for your glory, O Lord.”
