What to expect during your stay at Next Step Rehab

If you have an upcoming surgery scheduled, and you know you are going to need an inpatient rehab stay afterward, you’ve probably been thinking about which facility is right for you. You’ve done your research, asked your friends and toured different facilities. You want to choose the place that you’ll feel the most comfortable, especially while you recover.

Next Step Rehab at Felician Village offers physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as personalized care plans to meet each person’s individualized needs. Next Step is a 20-bed household, with all private rooms, each with a private bathroom. Each room includes a phone, TV and free Wi-Fi services. Three meals a day are also included. Your care team will include nurses, therapists, a registered dietician, and a social worker to assist with discharge planning.

You should plan to bring 7-10 days of comfortable clothing. We will provide you with basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, shampoo, etc., however, you are welcome to bring your own from home as well. You can expect to have an hour of each therapy every day, depending on your needs. Each day, your therapy times will be written on the white board in your room. You will also have the option to attend different activities throughout the week, such as music, bingo or happy hour.

During your stay in Next Step, the social worker will schedule a care plan meeting. This meeting is usually held around 2 weeks into your rehab stay.   You can invite your family to attend this as well.  This meeting will include our interdisciplinary team (social worker, nurse, dietician and a therapy staff member). The purpose of this meeting is to discuss your therapy progress, medical and nursing care, dietary needs and discharge plans. If continued services are needed after your rehab stay, our social worker will be able to assist with this, such as homecare or outpatient therapy.
